Body
The body as received was largely damage & rust free. Minor rust was cut out & new metal welded in the left rear of the boot floor and right C pillar behind the right rear window. A minor dent in the left rear quarter panel was removed by working the metal. All fenders, doors, boot lid, bonnet, windows & trim was removed as well as the suspension and entire interior. The rear suspension and brakes were completely restored and bolted in place. The stripped shell was then trailered on its rear wheels to a paint shop specializing in vintage cars. The shell and all body parts were primed and painted in the grey/green used for SAAB Skunkworks cars.
Front Suspension, steering & brakes were installed and engine bay prepared for powertrain installation.
Using a new SAAB Clutch Disc and the special SAAB designed Adapter Plate, the Starter Motor was installed and Engine bolted to the Gearbox.
The assembled SAAB 96T3 Power Unit fit easily into the engine bay.
With the Power Unit installed, hook-up of ancillary systems was accomplished.
Because the SAAB 96T3 uses modern ECU technology there is a lot more engine wiring to all of the sensors and electronically controlled fuel and ignition components and a significantly larger Fuse and Relay box is utilized.
Body wiring was completed using relays where applicable. Dash wiring also connects thru the large Fuse and Relay box.
All systems operational …. Engine running.
New adhesive backed sound mat was installed on the inside of major body panels as well as on the cabin & boot floor.
A new vinyl headliner was installed.
With the exception of the windshield, the original glass was in excellent condition.
A new green tinted windshield was procured from Germany and the front & rear glass was installed using the most recent SAAB 96 weatherstrips with black rubber lockstrips. New weatherstrip was installed for all side windows.
